The Art of Repair
|
In her studio in Vancouver, BC, Naoko Fukumaru practices Kintsugi, the five-hundred-year-old Japanese artform of mending broken ceramics. Fukumaru’s own life was transformed by the Kintsugi philosophy of celebrating the beauty of brokenness and she invites viewers to embrace their own flaws and vulnerabilities as well. Through her playful, loving, and generous art pieces, she demonstrates the six stages of Kintsugi, showing the viewer that embracing and highlighting imperfection can create a new type of unique beauty.
